 How to get started
1. Complete an application form and skills checklist
The first step in your travel nursing journey is to complete an application form and skills checklist. This can be done in a number of ways:
  • Complete our online application form. It's quick, easy, free and secure.
  • Download an application form from our Web site. You can print it out, complete it by hand and return it by fax or mail.
  • Request an application form and skills checklist by mail. Once you’ve completed the materials, you can return by mail or fax.
  • Call us at (800) 735-4774 to apply by phone.
2. Talk to your recruiter
Once your travel application is accepted, you will be assigned your own personal recruiter—an experienced health care staffing expert with extensive knowledge of all aspects of the travel nursing industry. Your recruiter will encourage you to discuss your thoughts, feelings and career goals to understand what’s most important to you. Then, both of you will start reviewing travel nursing jobs to determine which positions best match your preferences.
3. Choose an assignment
With thousands of excellent travel nursing jobs in leading hospitals across the country, you are bound to find a position that’s a perfect fit. Once you’ve made your selection, your recruiter will send your credentials to the facility and a telephone interview will be scheduled.
4. Telephone interview with the facility hiring manager
In most cases, you will be interviewed by the facility’s hiring manager or the nurse manager of the unit where you will be working. Your recruiter will help you prepare for the interview, increasing the likelihood that you will be accepted for the assignment. Be prepared to discuss your nursing experience in detail and to give specific accounts of the kinds of units, patient populations and equipment you’ve worked with in the past. Remember, most facilities prefer travel nurses to have at least 18 months to two years of recent experience working in an acute-care setting.
5. Accept the assignment
After your telephone interview, you and the facility will determine if you’re the right fit for the job. There is no pressure or obligation for you to accept the position. Your travel nursing career begins only if and when you decide to accept an assignment.

Once you accept an offer, your recruiter will ensure that your move is as effortless as possible. We will assign you a personal quality management specialist to assist you with credentialing requirements, while our housing department will arrange free, quality housing for you, close to your assignment facility. We want to ensure that you arrive at your assignment feeling relaxed, upbeat and ready to provide excellent patient care.
6. You’re ready for a new adventure!
The moment has arrived—you’re on your way! Your Preferred Healthcare Staffing recruiter will remain in contact with you throughout your assignment. It is important to us that you thrive in your new environment and continue to enjoy every aspect of your travel nursing career.
